Dear Ms. Taylor:
I welcome you as the new Chair of the Board of the Hudson River Park Trust. This is an incredibly important position given what a critical role the Hudson River Park plays in the lives of so many Westsiders and so many New Yorkers. One of the most important issues facing the park and the Board is the proposals for development of Pier 40. I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT THE RELATED COMPANIES' PROPOSAL FOR PIER 40 IS ABSOLUTELY WRONG FOR THE PARK, AND I STRONGLY URGE YOU NOT TO APPROVE IT. Any plans for development of Pier 40 must be compatible with the waterfront, the surrounding park, and the surrounding neighborhood. A complex which attracts 2.7 million visitors a year, such as the Related Companies proposes, does not fit these criteria. It would greatly exacerbate traffic problems in the neighborhood, spur inappropriate development, and overwhelm the park.
