The Village & All That Jazz
After the extraordinary evening at the Village Vanguard on February 16, GVSHP’s jazz program series rolls on with another dynamic lineup at a unique and historic venue!
Jazz at the Sixth Street Community Synagogue
Monday, February 28
325 East 6th Street (btw. 1st & 2nd Avenues)

The great Village jazz tradition continues in unexpected places throughout the Village. The Ayn Sof Arkestra and Bigger Band, under the direction of saxophonist Rabbi Greg Wall with Grammy winning trumpeter Frank London, features some of the most innovative artists on the scene today – Pam Fleming, Paul Shapiro, Aaron Alexander, Fima Ephron, Eyal Maoz and others, in an exciting and original repertoire that promises to make this evening an unforgettable experience. Here, in this inspiring 19th century venue, Arkestra leader Rabbi Greg Wall is blazing new trails in World Jazz.
History overwhelms you at the Sixth Street Synagogue, a poignant reminder of the former Lutheran church associated with the General Slocum disaster. After the wine reception, the program begins with a brief talk on the history and architecture of the synagogue by Herb Latner, house historian and long-time East Village resident, and continues with the evening’s performance.
