Protect What You Love --
Give to GVSHP!
GVSHP is busier than ever right now – from fighting oversized high-rises on University Place, Broadway, and in the East Village to protecting already-landmarked areas along Fifth Avenue, in the West Village, and the Meatpacking District.
We must keep a close eye on the Mayor, who is blocking new zoning protections for our neighborhoods and has sought to gut existing ones, and the City Council, which has sought to weaken our landmarks law.
We can only do this with your help – please support GVSHP this #GivingTuesday.
GVSHP does so much with your support. We’ve helped get more than 1,250 buildings landmarked, including eleven new historic districts and district extensions, and over forty individual landmarks. We’ve saved landmarks like 827-831 Broadway from the wrecking ball. We’ve gotten community-friendly contextual rezonings for nearly one hundred blocks. And every day we monitor 6,500 buildings in our neighborhood for demolition and construction applications, and check every one of more than 3,500 landmarked buildings in our neighborhoods for applications to change them.
We can only do that because our members and friends are willing to support what we do.
Your help does even more. You allow us to educate young students and real estate professionals about the value of historic preservation. You enable us to execute scores of programs every year about the history, heritage, and value of our neighborhoods. You make possible the research we perform, the archives we maintain, and the support for small businesses and local cultural institutions we provide.
You make this possible.
We need you now more than ever. We face incredibly tough challenges. But with your help we can meet them head on, continue to celebrate and protect our neighborhoods, and most importantly, we can win.
A strong GVSHP means protecting what you hold dear about your community.
