Dear Chair Weprin,
I write to express my support for the proposed rezoning the 3rd and 4th Avenue corridors in the East Village from C6-1 to C6-2A.
This area desperately needs a rezoning. The current zoning is woefully inappropriate, encouraging a gigantic scale of hotel and dorm development in a predominantly residential, low-rise and mid-rise neighborhood.
While the proposed rezoning does not go as far as I would like and as community groups called for, it is at least an improvement. It would impose height limits for the first time, eliminate the current incentive for dorm and hotel development, and eliminate the incentive for the creation of dull, lifeless plazas.
I urge you to support this rezoning.
