Re: Delays in Rezoning of the Far West Village C6-1 District
Dear Director Burden:
I strongly urge the Department to ensure that there are no further delays in the certification of the promised rezoning of the C6-1 zone in the Far West Village.
As you know, community groups have been pushing for this rezoning for two years, asking for support from City Planning, the Community Board, and local elected officials. After many months of ignoring these requests, last year City Planning finally agreed to support such a rezoning. This February City Planning said at a public meeting that the rezoning would begin in April or early May. Now it is my understanding that certification, which begins the rezoning process, has been pushed back to early June at the earliest.
A delay of even a few weeks can have significant consequences, given that several developers are looking to move ahead with projects in this area right now, with the old inappropriate zoning in place. We have been asking your Department to move ahead with this much-needed and long-overdue rezoning for some time now. There is no excuse, and no need, for further delays.
Please ensure that the promised rezoning of the Far West Village’s C6-1 zone is certified and begins as soon as possible.
