Join Us Tuesday 1/21 for Preservation Progress: NYU, the South Village, & Other Victories and Goals

Join GVSHP Executive Director Andrew Berman this coming Tuesday evening for a look at preservation progress over the last ten years in the Village, East Village, and NoHo, including the recent NYU lawsuit and South Village landmarking victories — what they mean, how we got there, and where we go from here.

Over the last ten years, GVSHP has helped secure landmark designation of more than 1,100 buildings throughout our neighborhoods, and community-friendly, “contextual” rezonings of nearly one hundred blocks — a virtual small city of preservation in our ever-changing metropolis. Of course there have been painful losses as well, and much unfinished business. Large sections the South Village, East Village, Far West Village, and Broadway, University Place, and 14th Street corridors still lack landmark protections; the final fate of NYU’s massive expansion plan remains to be seen; and the new law allowing air rights transfers from the Hudson River Park opens a Pandora’s Box of development potential along the western edge of our neighborhood. Join us for this talk and presentation to find out more about what has been accomplished, what still needs to be done, and what the most recent developments and successes really mean.

WHEN: Tuesday, January 21st at 6:30 pm
