Dear Chair Tierney:
I am outraged that the Landmarks Preservation Commission is considering reneging on its well-documented 2005 public commitment to consider eight individual sites in the Far West Village for landmark designation, three of which remain undesignated, and one of which is immediately threatened.
The endangered 1839 rowhouse at 370 West 11th Street is a rare example of a Greek Revival house along the Greenwich Village waterfront. Plans have been filed to significantly alter both facades and to add a rooftop addition to the building. The LPC must move quickly to landmark this important historic resource before its significant architectural fabric is compromised. The LPC should also follow through on its still outstanding promise to also consider 372 West 11th Street and Charles Lane for landmark designation.
I urge you to follow through on the LPC’s promise of six-and-a-half years ago right away, before it is too late.
