State Legislation Allows Transfer of Hudson River Park Pier Air Rights Inland for Development
GVSHP was very concerned when the State Legislature approved a measure in late June allowing the “air rights” from commercial piers within the Hudson River Park to be transferred for use one block inland. This has the potential to significantly increase the size and scope of development along the waterfront in our neighborhoods.
There was virtually no notice to the general public that such a measure was to be voted upon or was even under consideration by the State Legislature, no solicitation of public comments or feedback, and no analysis done or information provided about the potential scope of the impact this would have or the amount, type, scale, or location of development it would allow.
GVSHP and fellow Village and Chelsea community groups have expressed our extreme concern to State legislators about this, and asked for answers to these questions as well as a broader conversation with the public about this measure’s potential impact and implications for development in our neighborhoods.
