Tompkins Square Park: From Bouwerie to Greenmarket – A pop-up exhibit

Join the East Village Parks Conservancy, GrowNYC and Village Preservation as we explore the history of Tompkins Square Park in images, from its location on the Bouwerie (or farm) of Peter Stuyvesant through today, where a vibrant market sets up shop every Sunday, selling produce, providing composting, and collecting recyclables. Images will explore the Park’s historic development, the site’s history as a place of revolt, and the Greenmarket past and present. Drop by during Greenmarket hours, peruse this pop-up exhibit, shop the bounty of the market, and enjoy some samples straight from the farms. Representatives from GrowNYC and the Village Preservation will also be available throughout the day.

The East Village Parks Conservancy is a volunteer community-based organization committed to the restoration, care and expansion of green spaces in the East Village of New York City.

GrowNYC is a hands-on non-profit which improves New York City’s quality of life through environmental programs that transform communities block by block and empower all New Yorkers to secure a clean and healthy environment for future generations.
